Apparently John Mayer didn't think it was suitable to call off his whirlwind romance to Katy Perry in person - so he sent an email to her instead.

According to US Weekly, it was Mayer who got tired of Perry's "hard partying" and "decided to pull the plug. As shocking as that is, US Weekly's source also claims "he dumped her over email. She was furious and really hurt. She was into him, but he wasn't feeling it."

The pair was first spotted in early August, but the romance would make it out of the month. Still, it broke KAty's heart, according to reports. "John did a real number on Katy. She held off from his advances for the longest time, but he laid on the charm thick and promised her he was a changed man," a source tells RadarOnline.com. "She eventually gave in, fell head over heels for him and then - yep - once he had made his conquest, he dumped her."
