The Good Wife

Let's hope the Golden Globes take note: CBS's top-shelf drama The Good Wife won twice at Wednesday night's People's Choice Awards, hauling in more hardware for one of the best shows on television.

Star Julianna Margulies accepted the trophy for Favorite Network TV Drama, which The Good Wife scored over Chicago Fire, Grey's Anatomy, Nashville and Parenthood.

Margulies was nominated for Favorite Dramatic TV Actress, but lost that category to Castle star Stana Katic.

Meanwhile, Josh Charles was named Favorite Dramatic TV Actor, beating out Jim Caviezel (Person of Interest), Kevin Bacon (The Following), Mark Harmon (NCIS) and Patrick Dempsey (Grey's Anatomy). Margulies accepted the award on Charles' behalf, as the actor skipped the ceremony for his honeymoon.

People's Choice Awards

The Good Wife has a chance to snag additional victories in all three of the same categories at this weekend's Golden Globe Awards. At Sunday's ceremony, it's in contention for Best TV Series, Drama, while Margulies is nominated for Best Actress in a TV Series, Drama, and Charles is up as Best Supporting Actor in a Series, Miniseries or TV-Movie.

The trophies are the icing on the cake for the show's fifth season, which has been met with critical acclaim as title character Alicia Florrick (Margulies) started a new law firm with former rival Cary Agos (Matt Czuchry), much to the ire of her old boss and one-time romantic partner, Will Gardner (Charles). And in the most recent episode, Alicia learned that husband Peter (Chris Noth) may have become Governor of Illinois through unethical means.

Congratulations to Julianna, Josh and everyone at The Good Wife on the series' awards success, and hopefully that trend will continue at the Globes. Ironically, The Good Wife's next new episode airs Sunday, January 12 - the same night that Golden Globe winners will be announced.
