Meet Multi-Talented Fashionista Erin Micklow
Erin Micklow is a woman of many talents, and all of them look good. The celebrity stylist, model and image consultant recently sat down with BFTV to tell us how she handles everything that she does, and gave us a few pieces of beauty advice along the way.
The first thing to know about her is that she doesn't try to define herself by one or two lines on her resume. "I just call myself actress, model, wardrobe stylist, punk rocker and overall wild child," she told us.
As far as how she balances all those descriptors? It's a do-it-all-yourself approach. "I feel like modeling and styling go hand in hand," explained Erin. "Myself, I'm more of an alt model. I'm not a regular model. Being an alt model, you're kind of your own team. I do my hair and makeup for all my shoots. I style all my shoots. That's not really time-consuming. If I have an acting job, that's a little more time-consuming."
"My modeling is where I've done the most right now, and I'm quite proud of the range of looks I can pull off," she continued. "And I attribute that to my styling. It's about putting a certain look, a certain concept together. I'm a big fan of skinny jeans. I'm a big fan of all black."
If you want to see some of Erin's handiwork, look no further than the picture above. "I style the majority of my shoots," she told us.
Having established that she's a beautiful model, we asked Erin to break out her stylist expertise and give us the one important thing people need to know in order to find their own personal style. "It has to be something you feel really comfortable wearing," she explained. "The best thing is something that fits your body right. One of the biggest things I've noticed with my clients is that their clothes don't fit them properly. And then, of course, coloring. I'm very pale, so when I wear white it just completely washes me out. That's pretty much the basics."
Once you've found your best look, though, be willing to let it grow along with you. "I think it definitely evolves," Erin added. "I've expressed myself through clothing, and I think for people your personality changes a little bit. You look back on your closet and you think 'I wouldn't wear that any more.' But as far as doing a complete 180, I don't see that all that often."
When she's not working to make other folks look their best, you'll likely find the down-to-earth Erin at a punk rock concert with her friends. "I get really excited about music in general," she said. "I hang out with all the people in bands. Punk rock is my home. It's been my home for a long time."
Whether it's music or fashion, Erin does everything with a smile on her face, and no one can accuse her of not doing enough. With all the proverbial hats that she wears professionally, what could possibly be ultimate goal? "I want to change fashion," she told us with a laugh, "one ugly outfit at a time."
