5. He has a musical theater background and killed it on Broadway. In addition to receiving a B.F.A. from the University of Michigan, Darren’s been embracing theater life since he was a child. In January 2012, Darren made his Broadway debut replacing Daniel Radcliffe in “How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying.”
6. He isn’t afraid to play gay. As one-half of everyone’s favorite TV couple, Darren’s portrayal of teenage dreamboat Blaine Anderson has both guys and girls swooning. His onscreen romance with Chris Colfer’s Kurt Hummel has often drawn fire from anti-gay organizations but Darren has kept his cool and admits to being comfortable enough with his own sexuality to kiss other boys.
7. He loves his family and friends. Darren is an avid fan of his big brother’s band, Freelance Whales, and is often heard supporting the band and its endeavors. During this summer’s “Listen Up” tour, he dedicated several songs to his parents, who appeared to have joined their youngest son on several tour dates. Darren is also very vocal about supporting his old friends on their various successes. On social media platforms like Twitter, Vine and Facebook, he gives numerous shout outs to friends and their musical performances, album releases, television gigs and other accomplishments.
8. He’s genuinely funny. It’s hard not to be funny on a musical comedy like “Glee,” and Darren’s upcoming film debut finds him co-starring alongside funny people and Hollywood A-listers Kristen Wiig, Annette Bening and Matt Dillon. His off-screen humor is also evident in the number of silly Vine videos he posts on the internet.
