'Revolution' Recap: 'The Longest Day'

May 14th, 2013 12:59pm EDT
longestday
Revolution is about war. It’s about families being torn apart, it’s about loyalties being tested, and, as we were reminded tonight, it’s about survival – no matter who you are and who you love. Oftentimes, we forget about these factors in lieu of the “close call” deaths, random kidnappings, and heated dramatic exchanges. But “The Longest Day” (which thankfully was not really the longest day, turning out to be one of the better paced and more interesting episodes of the season) helped remember that this show is a war story as much as it’s a family story – something we needed heading into the...

'Once Upon A Time' Season 2 Finale Recap: 'And Straight On Til Morning'

May 13th, 2013 1:54pm EDT
Once Upon A Time
What do you do when you’ve got an over abundance of characters, a few mythology based plotlines and 22 episodes worth of story to tie up? If you’re Once Upon A Time, you open a portal and…send your main characters on a pirate ship to Neverland.

My prediction for the end of the season (bold might it have been) was that the fail-safe for the curse would be activated, Storybrooke would be destroyed, and everyone would be saved but also be forced to start over - say, in Neverland. Despite Greg and Tamara’s best efforts (and a rather close call), Storybrooke didn’t get destroyed, and Regina (wi...

'Revolution': 'The Love Boat'

May 7th, 2013 9:30am EDT
revolution love boat
Revolution is often dealt a tricky hand. It’s a show filled with dense mythology, most of which is needed to understand why certain characters in a large cast are important. It’s also a show filled with questions, most of which need to be answered in order to help the plot move at a pace that doesn’t make the viewer feel like they’re tuning in for nothing. For the past few episodes, the program has been doing a commendable job at balancing out these two aspects, but “The Love Boat” fell somewhat short. Perhaps it’s because previous episodes have seemed more action-filled, and, while solid, ...

'Once Upon A Time': 'Second Star To The Right'

May 6th, 2013 8:34am EDT
Once Upon A Time
The penultimate episode of Once found us exploring a new world – Neverland – as well as mourning the death of a character that we’ve grown accustomed to seeing in Storybrooke. Though there’s no real proof that Neal is actually, 100% dead (I’ve learned to be skeptical when it comes to showrunners who previously were involved in a series that showed characters cheating deaths quite often), his sacrifice was enough to shake Emma, who now has to deal with something no parent should ever have to deal with  - telling their son his father is no longer alive.

Neal’s death, while possibly predicted...

'Revolution' Recap: 'Home'

April 30th, 2013 1:27pm EDT
revolution home
Revolution’s fifth episode of its second half of the season chose a title that played on a double meaning pertinent to the journeys of all its characters. While it was obvious “Home” referred first and foremost to the childhood home of Miles and Monroe, it also seemed to refer to the underlying theme of all our characters searching for home – and for the acceptance of a family.

While the show has taken almost every opportunity since its return to shove answers and questions at us, mythology took a backseat as “Home” played more towards emotional character issues, concentrating on moving th...

'Once Upon A Time' Recap: 'The Evil Queen'

April 30th, 2013 11:47am EDT
once evil
In preparation for next week’s first of the two-part finale, “The Evil Queen” took us back to where it all started – both in terms of the series and in terms of the season as a whole. Once began its second season with a clear focus on redemption -specifically, redemption for such “evil” characters as Regina and Rumple. Throughout the past few months, we’ve watched Regina’s continued struggle between good and evil and this episode brought that conflict to a head, showing how far Regina has fallen among her peers.

We know Regina as the “Evil Queen,” yet we also know (and have been shown) tha...

A seasoned and versatile performer, Rules of Engagement’s Megyn Price has seemingly done it all – except direct. But come Monday night that will all change as Price makes her directing debut with the episode, “Timmy Quits,” fulfilling what has been the actress’ dream for almost as long as she’s been a part of the television world.
In anticipation of the episode’s airing, Price spoke exclusively with us about her double duty experience as an actor and director on one of TV’s hottest comedies, and what she was most excited about viewers seeing:
I know directing is something you wanted to do f...

VIKINGS: Creator Michael Hirst Talks Season Two & More

April 27th, 2013 1:53pm EDT
Vikings
“Just say the words viking to anyone, and it conjures up amazing thoughts and images. They’re inspiring people. And I wanted to introduce the world to the race of people that were amazing.”
That’s the answer from show runner Michael Hirst when asked why his original series has captivated such an audience. Since it’s March 3 debut, the show has shattered records and captured the attention of millions – enough to grant it the gift of a season two renewal.
“I certainly didn’t want to end it at the end of season one, because we’ve got all these great characters up and running,” admitted Hirst. ...

'Revolution' Recap: 'The Night The Lights Went Out In Georgia'

April 23rd, 2013 10:46am EDT
georgia
“Must be what God feels like,” muses Rachel’s old friend Jane (Kate Burton), referring to the two Militia men whose faces she melts off thanks to a high tech phaser. While the comment most certainly seemed to be a backhanded one to Rachel in regards to her role in the blackout, Jane might as well be speaking for the entire post-apocalyptic Revolution world, as at least three characters in this episode experienced instances of “God-like” power personas.

Just as the show is traipsing through states and showing us new parts of the world outside of the Monroe Republic (Welcome to Georgia), wit...

'Once Upon A Time' Recap: 'Lacey'

April 22nd, 2013 8:25am EDT
Once Upon A Time
After a month long break, Once Upon A Time kicked off its run of the final four episodes of season two by laying new ground with plotlines and developments that will certainly become vital to the culmination of most of the main characters’ journeys this season. “Lacey” gave us a bit of everything – a fun (and sexy!) Emilie de Ravin, a new character (hi, Robin Hood) and more backstory on the history of Belle and Rumple when Rumple was still a “beast” of a man. But at the heart of it all, “Lacey” was really about setting the stage for the crumbling of what has been somewhat of a redemption ar...
