TiVo Launches TiVo Stream
TiVo formally announced the TiVo Stream today, a brand new accessory that will allow any TiVo Premiere DVR users to watch recordings on their iOS devices on the go or stream them to their iPad, iPhone or iPod Touch without interrupting normal viewing on the TV while they’re at home.
TiVo Stream allows for simultaneous streaming or downloading of recorded shows on up to four different mobile devices—currently, you could stream one program from one TiVo Premiere to another in the house, but that was it. Now up to 4 people can access up to 4 different programs already saved or currently recording.
That’s for when you’re in your house on your own WiFi network. But you can also download recordings for later viewing on your iPad, iPhone or iPod Touch. You could previously do this with older TiVos and special software, but it usually took the exact length of the show to dump to your mobile device. (60 minutes to download for 60 minutes of content.) According to TiVo, with the TiVo Stream, you can download a one hour show in as little fifteen minutes.
Here’s a couple quick specs on the TiVo Stream:
- Compatible TiVo products: TiVo Premiere, TiVo Premiere XL, TiVo Premiere 4, TiVo Premiere XL4 (previously Premiere Elite)
- Inputs: Gigabit Ethernet, 12v DC power
- Dimensions: 4” x 4” x 1.05”
- Weight: 0.3 pounds
One sad feature of the TiVo Stream is that you’ll need a wired Internet connection.
TiVo Stream is available for purchase now on www.tivo.com for $129.99 and will be coming soon to most Best Buy stores.
