After debuting at #54 on the Billboard Top 200 album chart earlier this month, on sales of more than 18,000 copies - her strongest single-week tally ever by a factor of five - Neko Case’s album ‘Fox Confessor Brings The Flood’ (Anti-) is racking up some impressive critical numbers as well. The popular review-tracking website gives ‘Fox Confessor’ a cumulative score of 85, making it one of the highest rated albums to date this year.

Only four releases have reached the 85 benchmark in 2006. Metacritic bases their scores on a weighted average of reviews for a specific release, collected and tabulated from publications around the country.

One of the reviews in Metacritic’s poll, no doubt, is Greil Marcus’ from the new issue of Interview magazine. He ranks Neko #1 and 2 on his “April Top Ten” list, noting “On ‘Fox Confessor’ [Case] sings as if she knows more - or doubts more. There’s a warmth here, as if drawn from a deep well.” This follows the March issue of Interview which hailed ‘Fox Confessor’ as “one of the most original, beguiling, honest records of the year.”

Case kicks off a national tour on Wednesday, March 29 at First Avenue in Minneapolis. She pulls into New York on April 6 and 7 for two shows at Webster Hall, her largest NYC venue to date.
