Ne-Yo Sued By Ex-Girlfriend Over TV Interview
Singer Ne-Yo is facing legal action from his ex-girlfriend over remarks he made about the end of their romance during a 2012 TV documentary.
The So Sick hit-maker opened up about former lover Jesseca White during a VH1 Behind The Music special, which aired last September. On camera he revealed White gave birth to a baby in 2005, and named Ne-Yo, real name Shaffer Smith, the father on the birth certificate.
Ne-Yo's mother and his closest friends urged him to take a paternity test and when he did the singer/songwriter realized he was not little Chimere's biological dad, leaving him devastated and heartbroken.
The lovers split after reaching an agreement not to discuss the matter with the media - and Ne-Yo revealed on the TV special that he had lost contact with his ex and the baby he thought was his.
White now claims she has been subjected to verbal abuse, including accusations she is "pathetic" and a "gold-digging b**ch," following the TV revelations, and she alleges the interview depicted her as "an unchaste woman who deliberately tricked him into believing he was the father of her child... so that she could fraudulently bilk him of ungodly amounts of money."
She has filed a lawsuit against her ex-partner and is seeking unspecified damages, alleging she has lost work as a photographer and a graphic designer because of his TV remarks, according to TMZ.com.
The suit comes three months after White's attorney Gloria Allred accused Ne-Yo of breaking the former couple's legal gag order and defaming her client.
Allred fired off a letter to the star in December, claiming White had been unable to work and forced to seek financial aid because she is "beset by nausea, vomiting, and hair loss" as a result of his comments. At the time White was hoping to settle the matter amicably out of court.
Ne-Yo previously addressed the drama just after the Behind The Music special aired, denying he used the TV documentary to get back at his ex-girlfriend.
In a tweet sent to followers in September he wrote, "I need it to be known that the purpose of my BEHIND THE MUSIC wasn't to bash Jessica White. We were young, mistakes were made. I FORGAVE... Holding grudges messes with your blessings. I do not hate Jessica White. I wish her and lil' Chimere all the best where ever they are."
