Tito Rojas/Tito Nieves/Tito Gomez Tres Titos: Los Idolos del Pueblo Release Date: 2006 06 20 Label: Musical Productions Tito Rojas was once named Puerto Rico's finest salsero. Tito Nieves is perhaps the biggest name in New York salsa to date. Tito Gomez has sung for some of the genre's greatest bandleaders, including Barretto and Palmieri, not to mention joining the legendary Grupo Niche. Three of Puerto Rico's most accomplished salsa legends performing together in a huge outdoor concert -- it would have been quite an event, had it ever happened, as the cover art implies. Unfortunately, Los Tres Titos is yet another case of creative repackaging, as the salsa genre is so consistently guilty of. Musical Productions has created a really fun, light-hearted CD, featuring the big hits from three big hitmakers. Tunes like "Fabricando Fantasias," "El Gallo No Olvida," and "Volver" make for a great dance disc. It's just a shame that the folks over at the label saw fit to lead fans down the garden path, thinking this record might be something that it's not. This is a good-times dance disc, just know that dedicated Puerto Rican salsa fans probably own all these tracks already. Evan C.
