The Moonglows On Stage Release Date: 1992 Label: Relic Record Productions This is an offbeat release for Relic, which usually issues vintage doo wop material from the 1950s. Instead, we have an undated body of live performances featuring Bobby Lewis, probably from the '70s. Lewis' widow provided the tape, which is his musical testament to the world. The sound is in stereo and pretty modern, although it's not state-of-the-art by a long shot, a two-microphone recording that does catch the group in superb form -- it's just not at a totally professional level, the applause cut off between numbers and the "mix," such as it is, fairly basic. The songs include "Sincerely," "Love Is a River," "Sea Saw," "When I'm with You," and "The Beating of My Heart," mostly sung in achingly beautiful fashion. It is a nice coda to the MCA remastered editions of the Moonglows' work.
