Spooky Tooth
Comic Violence
Release Date: 2000 10 31
Label: Dressed To Kill

Comic Violence is simply a repackaged version of the 1974 Spooky Tooth release The Mirror. The tracks are sequenced differently and the artwork is radically updated; otherwise, there is nothing new about this 2000 Dressed to Kill offering. At least the producers of this disc decided on one of the '70s blues-rock outfit's better efforts when they picked The Mirror for what is essentially a re-release in disguise. Tunes like "Hell or High Water" and "Higher Circles" count among Spooky Tooth's best. After limping through their early-'70s recording career, the band ended things on a high note with this recording, relying on eventual Foreigner guitarist Mick Jones and new vocalist Mike Patto to assist singer/keyboardist Gary Wright in creating some first-rate arena pop/rock. Fans of the group who haven't acquired The Mirror might have an easier time finding Comic Violence, but no matter how this collection is packaged, it's one of Spooky Tooth's best.
