Sense of Change
Release Date: 1999 09 14
Label: SPV

Sense of Change (originally released in 1991), along with Steps, is generally considered to be Sieges Even's best output. Gone are any comparisons to Watchtower, as much of the metal has been replaced by a more sophisticated, melodic, and acoustic-oriented approach. The comparisons to '80s Rush are obvious, but so too are those to neo-prog bands such as Pallas, Pendragon, and Marillion, as well as guitarist Allan Holdsworth. Vocalist Jogi Kaiser is an acquired taste, but manages to make a lasting impression on what was to be a very short career with the band. The band's trademarks of top-notch musicianship and quirky originality were never more evident than on selections such as "Dimensions" and "These Empty Places." While it could be argued that the band seemed to be consumed, rather than inspired by, their influences, they still managed to produce one of the better progressive rock recordings of the early '90s.
