Rick Dees
Original Disco Duck
Release Date: 1977
Label: RSO

This is the album that made Rick Dees' career. Dees first aired this parody while a DJ at WHBQ in Memphis in 1977. The song took advantage of the disco craze and has been called the biggest selling novelty hit of the 1970s. RSO released The Original Disco Duck in 1977, and the Donald Duck-voiced track "Disco Duck, Pt. 1" went to number one on the charts, sold more than four million copies, and earned Dees a People's Choice Award. A bit of trivia: the hit song was inspired by a 1960s dance hit called "The Duck" by Jackie Lee. The Original Disco Duck also included the minor hit "Dis-Gorilla" and the forgettable "Bionic Feet" and "Flick the Bick." A fun novelty record, but not a classic comedy album.
