Red Foley
Memories
Release Date: 1971
Label: Vocalion

Memories is a budget reissue of recordings Red Foley made in the late '40s and early '50s, and includes a few big hits. Foley's version of Slim Willet's "Don't Let the Stars Get in Your Eyes" was one of several renditions that reached the country and pop Top Ten in 1953. "Sunday Down in Tennessee" was a sizable hit, as was "As Far as I'm Concerned." The non-hits are sacred, traditional, and sentimental songs, from "Will the Circle Be Unbroken" to the tragic "Don't Make Me Go to Bed and I'll Be Good." Foley recorded numerous boogies, but only one -- "Pin Ball Boogie" -- is represented. Considering the scarcity of Red Foley reissues in the last twenty years, Memories -- and practically any Foley LP, for that matter -- is a valuable document of this Country Music Hall of Famer's exceptional music.
