Ray Boltz
Honor and Glory
Release Date: 1998 10 27
Label: Word Distribution

Although a bit heavy-handed at times, this is a good Ray Boltz album. He's moved toward a richer sound with more acoustic instruments and lusher orchestrations. Honor and Glory is not only the title, but also the theme. It draws parallels between serving God and serving country and pays homage to veterans in particular. "The Call/An Honor to Serve" is a particularly moving tribute to Jeremiah A. Denton Jr., a POW during the Vietnam War. Sometimes Boltz wallows a bit too much in sentimentality (i.e., "Does the Light Still Shine"), but overall this is a satisfying, focused effort. Melinda Hill, All Music Guide
