Biography:
In the aftermath of two highly successful tours with ex-Led Zeppelin bandmate Jimmy Page, vocalist Robert Plant found himself musically inspired. As Page continued to work with the Black Crowes, Plant began seeking new outlets for his creativity. Joining together with two performance arts faculty members of Kidderminster College and two students, Plant formed a new group, Priory of Brion, at the end of 1997. The experience proved so fulfilling that the band agreed to tour in July 1999 and the spring of 2000. According to /http://www.warren.org.uk, "they sound like a well-drilled unit but there's no loss of spontaneity. The rough edges from earlier in the tour are gone but there is still a sharpness to their music."
Priory of Brion, whose repertoire mainly consists of tunes that Plant played with his early-'60s group, Band of Joy, takes its name, according to Plant, from an "amalgam of the Priory of Zion, an ancient French secret society, and The Life of Brian by Monty Python." In addition to Plant, the group includes guitarist Kevyn Gammond (aka Carlyle Egypt), a veteran of early-'70s band Bronco and currently a senior professor in the music education department at Kidderminster College; bassist Paul Wetton (aka Eric "Bloodaxe" Brian); electric piano, Hammond organ, and guitar player Paul Timothy (aka Owain Glyndwr); and drummer Andy Edwards (aka Aleister Crowley).
