Paquito Guzmán

This album represents a newer direction for Paquito Guzmán: highly popular ballads made into slow-tempo salsa. This may seem an objectionable era for die-hard traditional salsa followers, but that was exactly what the public wanted, and salsa experienced a commercial reawakening that hadn't been seen since the early '80s. Arrangers Cuto Soto and Tommy Villariny made themselves into well-known names during this era, as well as TH record producer Julio César Delgado. Paquito Guzmán's experience in the ballad scene seems to turn a new leaf, as his vocal work can testify. This commercial effort was another of the late-'80s successful attempts to attain newer horizons for salsa. Highlights include "25 Rosas," "Esa Mujer" (not to be confused with Manuel Alejandro's number of the same title), and "Ser Amantes." José A. Estévez, Jr., All Music Guide Tracks:
