Pérez Prado

This is a wonderful cross-section of Perez Prado's early recordings (1949-1951). It runs from the best of his classic mambos (e.g. "Caballo Negro") to the totally unmamboid but brilliant pop hit, "Cerezo Rosa," and includes a good deal of rare material (check "Pianola"). It was once fashionable to be sniffy about this band. Big mistake: it was a major influence on the best of Cubop and vice versa. John Storm Roberts, Original Music, All Music Guide Releases:
