Monks of Doom
Forgery
Release Date: 1992
Running Time: 55:41
Label: Capitol

When Camper Van Beethoven broke up, two bands were formed by some of the musicians. The first was Cracker. Monks of Doom is the other group. Cracker went on to become fairly famous, while Monks have remained virtually unknown. The two bands are similar, though, both combining the quirky, off-kilter elements of Camper with a more streamlined, straightforward rocking approach. This disc showcases that sound for Monks of Doom, and is quite enjoyable. Monks do get a bit progressive rock oriented at times, with some weird timing changes and unusual arrangements, though. Truly both fans of Camper Van Beethoven and Cracker should check this disc out. Gary Hill, All Music Guide
