Moe Rocks Terrastock: Moe Tucker Live in Seattle 11/05/2000 is a fascinating albeit brief 37 minutes of the innocent and pure rock & roll Moe Tucker has become known for. "Spam Again" opens the CD like a low tide, the calm before the folk/punk storm. Tucker eases the listener into her special brew, turning things up a notch on "I Wanna" and then performing the 1974 recording she did with Jonathan Richman and Willie "Loco" Alexander, "I'm Sticking With You," a new version 26 years later with Doug Yule on piano and vocals. Yule switches to guitar on "Cracking Up" and before you know it, the tune begins to sound like Mickey & Sylvia's "Love Is Strange" inverted. There's a wonderful diary/itinerary written by the Velvet Underground drummer inside the CD detailing highlights of the event, the English translated into Japanese in the four fold-out pages as the disc is on Tokyo's Captain Trip label. The music on Moe Rocks Terrastock comes from the heart, a woman creating sounds that Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera could never conceive. She's carved out her own identity and if Yule, Lou Reed, John Cale, and Tucker ever decide to put the underground's favorite band back together, the event can be very special providing they all join in backing each other's modern styles. "Bo Diddley" in Tucker's hands truly becomes "Moe Diddley" and is as close as you are going to get to the Velvet Underground in attitude and vibe. Captain Trip has also issued material by Willie "Loco" Alexander and Yule who, with Tucker, make up three-fourths of the final legitimate incarnation of the Velvet Underground.
