Mississippi Sheiks and Beale Street Sheiks
Sittin' on Top of the World 1927-32 [Biograph]
Label: Biograph

A CD reissue of an LP originally released in 1972 by Arnold S. Caplin's Biograph Records and attributed to the Mississippi Sheiks and the Beale Street Sheiks, this set is a little confusing as to who did what, but the music is solid, full of a wild, loose, and ragged energy driven by street-corner fiddles. It's blues mixed with hokum, country, and assorted dance reels, but it all comes out wonderfully integrated, and in the end it doesn't really matter who did what. Not really.
