La Monte Young
Poem for Chairs, Tables, Benches, etc.
Release Date: z
Label: Tellus

In the collection "FluxTellus 24." Composed in 1960, this is an early example of Young's rule-based, verbal instruction scores for improvising musicians who "actively listen to each other." (Verbal instruction scores were also called "music without notes", "procedural music", or "events"). The percussive, sustained friction, etc. floor sounds of furniture moved in precise distances and geometries in a resonate space provide the material for this radical and intriquing meditation.

Please note that many of La Monte Young's difficult to obtain recordings are available from the MELA Foundation (see addresses section) as well as works by Terry Jennings, Angus MacLise, Richard Maxfield and others. "Blue" Gene Tyranny, All Music Guide
