James Arnold (he became known as Kokomo Arnold after he covered Scrapper Blackwell's "Kokomo Blues" as "Old Original Kokomo Blues" in 1934) had a fast and distinctive slide guitar sound that makes nearly every one of the 88 sides he recorded for Decca Records between 1934 and 1938 a complete delight, and although it usually takes a back seat to his guitar skills, his singing was also energetic, varied and often quite striking. This P-Vine set collects his key tracks, including "Old Original Kokomo Blues," the ubiquitous "Milk Cow Blues," the bustling "The Twelves" and "Stop, Look and Listen," making this a decent introduction to one of the finest stylists of the early country blues.
