Josephine Wiggs
Bon Bon Life
Release Date: 1996 11 05
Label: Grand Royal

Josephine Wiggs' solo debut, Bon Bon Life, is a pleasant set of indie pop that sounds like it was recorded at the turn of the '90s. With her plain, tentative voice, Wiggs often sounds like she's uncomfortable fronting a band, which is ironic because this music sounds like it was recorded in a bedroom. But that's part of its charm. Wiggs' songwriting isn't fully developed, but the album has enough engaging, airy melodies and ringing guitar hooks to make it worthwhile. Bon Bon Life is low-key, lo-fi dream pop and indie rock, and while it's far from accomplished, it is an endearingly awkward, charming record. Stephen Thomas Erlewine, All Music Guide
