James Booker
King of the New Orleans Keyboard [Junco]
Release Date: 1976
Label: JSP

A spectacular date by a great New Orleans pianist whose personal difficulties prevented him from both a long life and sustained career achievement. James Booker was cited as an inspiration by everyone from Dr. John to Harry Connick Jr., and played with an array of performers, from Lloyd Price to Aretha Franklin, B.B. King, Ringo Starr, and the Doobie Brothers. He seamlessly fused a blues base, jazz touches, and an R&B/gospel feeling, and this was among his best (and few) recordings. Ron Wynn, All Music Guide
