Lovers of vinyl should be familiar with the concept that certain releases simply can't be appreciated to the full extent in any other format, and this often a case of combined efforts in the artwork department as well as music. Here is a really perfect example, because although this material was eventually combined with other material by this madman of Tex-Mex, there is really nothing like owning the album with its priceless band standing around the tour bus photograph. Collectors will most likely have to settle for the Arhoolie reissue, but the real treasure would be finding the first pressing from the RyN label out of McAllen, TX. Listeners who are unfamiliar with Jordan, but might have heard his music described, should head toward this album, where his concept of working all manner of outside stylistic influences into Tex-Mex songs is given free rein. One would have to head to the Spike Jones band or perhaps the John Zorn Naked City project to hear such tight, well-arranged, and rehearsed arrangements involving strange tempo changes, musical jokes, and goofy fills. It is really fantastic music, with the title track one of those pieces of music one simply couldn't possibly improve upon. Plus, the lyrics have a good moral! What else could one ask for? If the answer is country & western, Jordan takes care of that order expertly with the last two tracks. [Note: for some reason, the Arhoolie release has a different album title printed on the label.] Eugene Chadbourne, All Music Guide Tracks:
