They are the most recognizable, progressive rock band ever. Their signature song "Lucky Man" may not have ever happened. In an attempt to respect their contract with the record company, they did not have enough material to fill the 21 minutes per side for their debut album. In order to fill the record, Greg Lake was working on a song and playing some chords for a ballad he wrote when he was twelve years old. Keith Emerson was given some music to play on his new Moog synthesizer and Carl Palmer was working on the percussion. As the group was still playing and improvising the ballad, Keith did not know that the tape recorder was running. Keith's recognizable solo at the end of the song 'Lucky Man' was recorded on the first take.
