Distinguished Violin of Eddie South
Release Date: 1958 07 14-1958 07 15
Label: Mercury

This little-known LP has what were probably Eddie South's final recordings. Although only 53 at the time, the talented violinist would pass away less than four years later. South, who is accompanied by either Ed Higgins or James Todd on piano, rhythm guitarist John Gray, bassist Johnnie Pate and sometimes drummer Al Duncan, shows off his versatility throughout the continually interesting set. In addition to a couple of jazz standards and his own swinging "Fiddle Ditty," and South performs three Pate originals, his Hungarian theme song "Hejre Kati," "Nobody Knows the Trouble I've Seen," and pieces dedicated to classical violinist Fritz Kreisler and some Gypsy fiddlers.
