After splitting from the Ramones in 1989, co-founding member Dee Dee Ramone tried his hand at a variety of projects -- a recording career as a rapper, penning books, painting -- but it was his work with the Ramones that he will always be best remembered for. Eventually, Dee Dee began playing Ramones covers and originals once more (as a solo act), resulting in such releases as 2000's Greatest & Latest. Joined by his wife, Barbara Ramone (who supplies Joan Jett-like lead vocals to several songs), Dee Dee rips through such Ramones standards as "Blitzkrieg Bop," "Teenage Lobotomy," "Cretin Hop," and "Pinhead," in addition to covers (the Everly Brothers' "Cathy's Clown") and Ramones-like originals ("Fix Yourself Up"). Obviously aimed at hardcore Ramones fans who need every recording in their collections, Greatest & Latest is a fun listen, but (does this really need to be said?) is in no way comparable to the definitive, ultra-classic original versions.
