Recorded around the late '50s, this consists of four suites of the late 17th century by Lodovico Roncalli, an Italian composer about whom little is known. Byrd performed these early baroque pieces, as the liner notes avow, so that listeners would "hear the music as nearly like it originally sounded as is possible on a modern instrument." It was reissued on CD in 1997 as part of Milestone's Classical Byrd compilation, which also includes all but one of the tracks from another Byrd album of the period, An Anthology of Music for the Guitar -- The Sixteenth Century.
