One Night Stand with Charlie Barnet, Vol. 2
Label: Joyce

The second LP of Charlie Barnet broadcasts put out by the collector's label Joyce features two different versions of Barnet's big band. Side one is taken from 1945-46 and finds the group (which has similar personnel as their Decca recordings of the period) playing high-quality late-period swing with three commercial vocals by Phil Barton and Fran Warren. However it is the flip side that is of greatest interest for the Nov. 1947 Barnet Orchestra featured trumpeter Clark Terry (who takes the vocal on "Sidewalks of New York") and was open to the influence of bebop. Such young modernists as trumpeters Doc Severinson and Jimmy Nottingham, altoist Bud Shank and pianist Claude Williamson were also in the band. Scott Yanow, All Music Guide
