Charles Brown
With Johnny Moore's Three Blazers
Release Date: 2003 03 06
Label: P-Vine Records

Many of Charles Brown's fans argue that his time with Johnny Moore's Three Blazers was one of his more interesting periods as a singer, combining deep blues with jazz standards, and Brown's work on this release proves to be one of the most consistently rewarding period's of the artist's career. Although a budget release, With Johnny Moore's Three Blazers contains many of Brown's great tracks from the 1940s -- "Sail on Blues," "How Deep Is the Oceans?" and "Travelin' Blues" are all included, but it's the consistent brilliance of Brown's playing, and the hugely important role of Johnny Moore, never interfering with the leader yet providing effortless arrangements that compliment Brown's style perfectly. For someone unwilling to go the box set route to pick up these recordings, With Johnny Moore's Three Blazers is a very worthwhile set to obtain. Thomas Ward, All Music Guide
