Carlos Alomar
Dream Generator [Private Music]
Release Date: 1987
Running Time: 50:11
Label: BMG

As is perhaps appropriate to a former sideman of the eclectic David Bowie, Dream Generator, Carlos Alomar's debut album, is brimming with different musical styles, taking its listener from delicate Japanese-sounding music to guitar rock in a stroke, moving from loud, rhythmic sounds to ambient ones. This is an instrumental album played mostly by Alomar on synthesizers and guitar, and is his bid in the new age sweepstakes. But Alomar's richness of style is also his weakness; another way of putting it is to say that he's all over the lot, and while that makes the album an adventure, it also makes it a sampler.
