Bent Wind was formed in the late '60s in the Toronto area. The original band consisted of Gerry Gibas (guitar and vocals), Marty Roth (rhythm guitar and vocals), Sebastian Pelaia (bass), and Eddie Thomas (drums). While only together for a short time, in 1969 the band recorded and released an album entitled Sussex on the Canadian Trend label. The album was pressed in a very limited quantity, and today less than 500 copies are believed to exist worldwide. The album quickly became one of the most sought-after pieces of Canadian music, and is now considered one of the rarist collectable albums in the world, with original pressings fetching thousands of dollars on the collectors' market. In 1989 the band, now under the control of Marty Roth, reformed with new members and recorded an album entitled The Fourth Line Is...You Will, also released in a very limited independent pressing. That album has also become a collector's item because of its limited availability. In 1996, Bent Wind released its first CD, Shadows on the Wall, which is another limited edition release of only 1,000 copies. The main players on this album are Marty Roth (lead vocals and 12-string guitar), Bill Miller (bass guitar and lead vocals on "Roll Over Baby"), Michael George Jones (lead guitar), and Wilson Laurencin (drums). This core group is supported by a host of other musicians, including Glen Jessamy, Stefan Janicki, Laura Dunn, Leslie Harwood-Jones, Chantal Legault, Cody Blacksky, Colleen Allen, Tortoise Blue, Mark Bajona, Robert Brockie, Roy Kenner, and Maddie Willis. The album contains 16 songs written or co-written by Marty Roth and, while not in the same garage psychedelic vein as the band's legendary Sussex album, Shadows on the Wall is nonetheless intriguing and will appeal to fans of the band's earlier works. Bent Wind -- and Marty Roth in particular -- has evolved musically since the '60s and this album contains some fine progressive-styled music as well as pop sounds that are well-suited for millennial musical tastes.
