Originally released in 1993 and then re-released in summer 1999 following the unprecedented success of the Cash Money camp, True Story serves as the first official Cash Money release, featuring a tender B.G. at only 11 years of age rapping about harsh ghetto realities. While it's a rather rough album in terms of production and features some admittedly shoddy rapping at times by the pre-teen B.G. (Baby Gangsta), it's still remarkable to envision such a young kid firing off some angst-ridden rhymes. Later albums by B.G., particularly his breakthrough album Chopper City in the Ghetto, show the rapper in top form relative to his fledging self here, so most will want to avoid this album at first. Yet if you're interested in where the Cash Money Millionaires got their start, there is no better place to go than this interesting time capsule of an album. Jason Birchmeier, All Music Guide Tracks:
