Easy Does It
Release Date: 2002
Label: Metro

Easy Does It is a single-disc compilation of Andy Williams' time at Cadence Records in the late '50s and early '60s. In that sense, this U.K. release is quite similar to the U.S. anthology on Varese Sarabande, 25 All-Time Greatest Hits: 1956-61: The Cadence Years. They're not exactly the same, however, though they're roughly of equal quality, since Easy Does It has seven songs not on the Varese Sarabande comp, and vice versa. The Varese Sarabande release is a little more completist in its inclusion of singles and chart hits, with three Top 40 singles ("Promise Me, Love," "Lips of Wine," and "The Bilbao Song") that don't show up on Easy Does It. Still, Easy Does It is a good retrospective of the Cadence era, and does have his biggest and most familiar hits from this period, including "Butterfly," "I Like Your Kind of Love," "Hawaiian Wedding Song," "Canadian Sunset," "Are You Sincere?," "Lonely Street," and "The Village of St. Bernadette." As for songs that don't appear on the Varese Sarabande best-of, the best are his version of "Blue Hawaii" (predating Elvis Presley's by a couple of years, though it was originally sung by Bing Crosby in 1937) and the mildly rock & roll-influenced flip side of "Butterfly," "It Doesn't Take Very Long."
