The Tomorrow Man Review: Part The Terminator, part It's a Wonderful Life, The Tomorrow Man is one of those low-budget, B-list actor productions that works best if you don't pay too much attention to it. If you ask too many questions -- What does Mac intend to do with his young self? Wouldn't the future be changed if the past is altered and none of this would be happening? Why would Vick leave the highly secret time-control device on a kitchen table? Why is Corbin Bernsen shouting all of his lines? -- the absurdity of the premise becomes distractingly apparent. But if you just let the fast-paced action and the nutty-but-fun story zip by as you pick up the kitchen or read a magazine, then you may find The Tomorrow Man is a passable time killer. True, the special effects are primitive (bullets cause sparks to fly even on wood; time travel is a represented by a sound effect and a single frame of negative celluloid), the villains use couches as shields against powerful weapons (but then, even highly skilled federal agents can't hit a target anyway), and ex-Marine Larry can hardly use a handgun. On the plus side, Beth Kennedy's wisecracking Vick has more heroic charisma and better moves than Lara Croft. Buzz McClain, All Movie Guide |
