The Powerpuff Girls Movie Review: The Powerpuff Girls Movie is, at only 77 minutes long, actually just a widescreen version of the Cartoon Network show, directed by series creator Craig McCracken. The first half serves as the origin of the girls, beginning with their birth in Professor Utonium's (Tom Kane) lab. The animation is relatively the same quality as the original show, with sharp edges, fat black outlines, and solid blocks of color. After the villainous monkey Mojo Jojo (Roger L. Jackson) comes into play, the second half of the movie becomes a nonstop fight scene of chases and laser beams. This scores well with the intended audience who may expect a decent amount of cartoon violence, but it may be a bit of a letdown for adults used to the show's more subversive story lines. The humor is very broad and adult viewers looking for a lot of sly pop culture references or Rocky & Bullwinkle-style asides may be disappointed. However, The Powerpuff Girls Movie still delivers the same attitude and action that has made the show a hit, and the hyper-cute trio continue to reign in as the best until more girl superheroes take over.
