Elvira's Haunted Hills Review:
Wise-cracking, breast-obsessed pop icon Elvira (Cassandra Peterson) pays daffy, harmless homage to the Roger Corman/Hammer horror films of the '60s in this well-constructed, joke-a-minute send-up. The spoof elements clearly are secondary to Peterson's sarcastic persona as she gets off memorable zingers and confidently treads into Mel Brooks territory. The Romanian production looks appropriately cartoony and the cast is clearly on board. It doesn't hurt to have Richard O'Brien in the cast, who brings back memories of the camp fun of the similarly paced The Rocky Horror Picture Show (which he wrote and starred in). Only the few who do not know Elvira's legacy and reputation will be surprised/offended/disappointed; those who enjoy her "Mistress of the Dark" shtick will be amused from beginning to end.
