Miley Cyrus Twerked & Tongued Her Way To Become MTV's Artist Of The Year
Miley Cyrus is the 2013 MTV Artist Of The Year. The singer's provocative performance with Robin Thicke at the MTV Video Music Awards in August helped land her the accolade.
MTV execs explained: "Whether it was the tongue, the twerk-tastic VMA performance or the Terry (Richardson) photo shoot, there's no denying there was a method to Miley's madness, the kind that could only be orchestrated by a 21-year-old who's been in the business for nearly a decade. She schooled - and shocked - us all in 2013, and did so on her own terms. All hail the new Queen of Pop."
Cyrus's new album, "Bangerz," was number one in nine countries, including the United States and United Kingdom. She also made memorable appearances on "Saturday Night Live" and the MTV European Music Awards, where she smoked marijuana on stage.
U.K. boy band One Direction held the Artist of the Year crown in 2012.
Meanwhile, Cyrus is also on Time magazine's shortlist for "Person Of The Year." She faces stiff competition from people including President Barack Obama and Pope Francis.
