I enjoy watching "Rick Steves: Best of Travels In Europe Series." He's a good travel commentator. He's quite a natural at getting the television viewer to obtain a feel for the European country he is covering. He has a knack for blending in with the locals in the towns and villages, to acquire knowledge of their customs and culture, such as sampling the various cusines, and joining in on their style of entertainment. He does an excellent job with his coverage of the historical parts of the European countries, such as showing and explaining the beauty, the structure, and the history of the architecture of historical buildings, particularly the gothic buildings, which I adore. I remember watching him once, when PBS was having a fund-raising campaign event, to raise funds for the continuance of the showing of his series, and he was asked by the host, what prompted him to desire a career in travels, and he stated that when he was about 6 or 7 years of age, his parents took him with them for a trip to Europe, and ever since that experience, he has had a deep love for that continent. I like how he teaches one, who is preparing to tour Europe, on how to achieve it economically, like seeking inexpensive lodging accommodations, such as hostels, bed and breakfast inns, ymcas, churches, as opposed to residing in famous-named, world-wided, high quality hotels. He also shows the viewer how to transport himself around, using cheaper modes of transportation, such as bicycles, public buses, motor bikes, subway trains, and trolleys. I like how he is concerned about the safety of the prospective traveler, as he teaches the traveler how to protect oneself from being a victum of robbery, such as wearing minimum jewelry, non-flashy clothing apparel, to blend in with the locals, instead of standing out, to become an open target, converting cask into travelers checks, and perhaps, even wearing a money belt, since a traveler has to have some cash at hand. It is also lovely how Rick brings his immediate family along, from time to time, to enjoy his journeys. I would be more than honored to meet Rick Steves, exchange hand shakes with him, and commend him for the time and effort he has put into making this travel series a phenomenal success. Rick, you're the best!
