Mariah Carey To Replace Randy Jackson On 'American Idol'?
'American Idol' faced a huge shakeup on Thursday as judge Jennifer Lopez hinted (heavily) at leaving the show, followed by Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler announcing his departure after two seasons.
And now it appears that Randy Jackson, who's been with the show since it began, is also stepping away from the judges' table.
Us Weekly.com reports that while Jackson would be leaving his spot on the judging panel, he would still remain with the show in a mentor capacity; and Mariah Carey - who hired Jackson as her new manager last November - is in talks to replace him.
"They are in serious talks with Mariah and it's very close to being a done deal," a source tells the magazine. "And they will move Randy into a more mentoring role."
The move would be part of a shake-up at the show to bring in some fresher, younger talent in order to keep up with recent changes to Simon Cowell's The X Factor, which recently replaced Paula Abdul and Nicole Scherzinger with Britney Spears and Demi Lovato.
Adam Lambert, Fergie and Nicki Minaj are among the stars rumored to be in talks to fill the remaining two seats on the judges' panel.
