Lady Gaga Fires Back Against Madonna's 'Born This Way' Mockery
Lady Gaga has suggested Madonna mocked her hit song "Born This Way" to make herself "feel better." Last month, Madonna made waves when she kicked off her MDNA world tour in Tel Aviv, Israel, and combined her classic "Express Yourself" with Gaga's strikingly similar tune before declaring, "She's not me!"
During her concert in New Zealand on Sunday night, Gaga insisted the jibes could "never invalidate the power of Born This Way" and hinted that Madonna was just bitter.
Gaga told the crowd in Auckland, "I don't even want to fight back because it's more important to me to keep writing music...Things are really different than they were 25 years ago, and that's what makes Born This Way so relevant for me...We're socially in a different place and it's OK, we don't have to all slice and hate each other any more.
"It sometimes makes people feel better about themselves to put other people down or make fun of them or maybe make mockery of their work."
Last year Gaga was criticized for "Born This Way" because the track's melody is almost identical to that of the 53 year old's iconic 1989 release.
