It’s ended, the curtain is down and projector is silent. That’s right film fans, the LA Film Fest 2014 is officially over and what a year it was. We got to check out various films – both good and bad – over the span of nine days that made for one fun time at the movies. Here at Starpulse.com we did a whopping nine articles that included three lush character actor interviews, as well as multiple reviews of a slew of flicks to keep you guys in the loop. Well, the fest has listed their favorites already, but now it’s our turn. Far from the politics and giving you the real skinny on what’s hot and not, we’re proud to end our fest coverage with our own....
Starpulse.com Best of Fest ‘Wrap Up’!
Best Film: This is the second year in a row that a documentary has taken the best film spot for us, but the magical allure of the inspirational "I Am Big Bird: The Caroll Spinney Story" is way too powerful to ignore. Captivating, fascinating and all the while heartwarming, this doc shows what the power of positive is all about. For years Spinney has been an unsung hero that stayed under the radar – this film finally gives him flight.
Best Film...I Never Saw: Really wanted to check out the passion project from Director Mark Webber and his wife actress Teresa Palmer called "The Ever After," but after a late start time of almost an hour and a half and two very long pre-screening speeches plus a short it was, alas, not meant to be.
Best Actor: Stealing not only ever scene he’s in, but the entire film Michael Stuhlbarg shows what old school acting and attention to character detail can do in his role of creepy focused hermit Derby Milton in the flick "Cut Bank."
Best Actress: Bringing back emotion and toughness as a one-two movie punch, Haley Lu Richardson soulfully kicks bad guy ass in the barren drama "The Well."
Best Q&A: After a screening of The Last Time You Had Fun when Director Mo Perkins tries to introduce her screenwriting husband Hal Haberman who refused to come up and discuss the flick - telling. (My question – was there any personal experience in that script?!)
Coolest Celeb Sighting: Ended up washing my hands next to master thespian Edward James Olmos – yes, "Miami Vice’s" Lt. Castillo himself! (No, I didn’t bug him!)
Best Fest Moment: Getting to go up front after the Q&A for "Cut Bank" to gush about Michael Stuhlbarg’s work right to the man himself.
