Kick-Ass creator Mark Millar, producer for Kick-Ass 2, has responded to Actor Jim Carrey's very public denouncement of the film. As some may recall, Carrey's character, 'Colonel Stars and Stripes' is one of the most anticipated highlights of the movie.
However, yesterday, Carrey Tweeted that he would be withdrawing his support from the movie, on the basis that it contained so much violence, that Carrey just couldn't condone it. Carrey's sudden change of heart and radical political stance on anti-gun and anti-violence has been brought about by the tragic Sandy Hook shooting that took place in Connecticut late last year.
Carreys withdrawal of support most likely means that he won't be actively promoting the upcoming film in any upcoming interviews or events. This strange change in sentiment has, perhaps rightfully, confused Millar.
"I'm baffled by this sudden announcement as nothing seen in this picture wasn't in the screenplay eighteen months ago. Yes, the body-count is very high, but a movie called Kick-Ass 2 really has to do what it says on the tin..."
He goes on to reveal that the character Carrey was portraying is a Born-Again-Christian with a penchant for cracking skulls with baseballs bats, but refusing to use a gun, the latter of which was supposedly what attracted Carrey to playing the character in the first place. He goes on stating:
"Ultimately, this is his decision, but I've never quite bought the notion that violence in fiction leads to violence in real-life any more than Harry Potter casting a spell creates more Boy Wizards in real-life.""
Kick-Ass 2 is due in theaters August 16th. If senseless Hollywood violence doesn't bother you, go check it out and watch Kick-Ass, Hitgirl and Colonel Stars and Stripes beat bad guys senseless in one of the most highly anticipated movies of the year.
