Kate Bosworth has thanked co-star Kevin Spacey for helping her land the role of Lois Lane in the new Superman Returns movie. The 23-year-old beauty starred alongside Spacey in 2004's Beyond the Sea and says she believes her friendship with the actor, who plays villain Lex Luthor in the film, led to her being offered the part.

She said: "Bryan Singer (the film's director) came to see Beyond the Sea and told Kevin they were looking to cast Lois Lane. Kevin told him he had just worked with me and that he should take a look at the film and see what he thinks.

"I feel like a huge part of why I got the role was because of Kevin and how he put me forward."

Kate added she was looking forward to playing the intrepid Daily Planet reporter but said she was finding it difficult to act sensibly in front of the 46-year-old star.

She added in an interview with OK! magazine: "He's so important to me and to my life. Because we've worked together before and we know each other so well, each scene was a lot of fun. I sometimes have to force myself not to laugh because he's just so funny and he's just so perfect."
