Kate Beckinsale and a whole slew of this year's most popular actresses - including Elizabeth Olsen, Jessica Chastain, Kirsten Dunst and Zoe Saldana - to name a few, graced the purple carpet at the 2012 Film Independent Spirit Awards, held at the Santa Monica Pier in Santa Monica, Calif.

For 25 years the event has been held as a luncheon on the beach in the coastal California town, and the ceremony celebrates the best in independent films.

At this year's awards The Artist continued its run toward Oscar glory by taking in four top honors at the event, including Best Feature, Director, Male Lead and Cinematography - helping solidify the film's chances as the odds-on-favorite for Best Picture at tonight's Academy Awards.

On Friday the film heralded six awards at the Cesar awards - France's equivalent to the Osars.

Other winners included Christopher Plummer, who was named Best Supporting Actor for his role in Beginners, George Clooney's The Descendants co-star Shailene Woodley and Michelle Williams for her portrayal of Marilyn Monroe in My Week With Marilyn.

Seth Rogen hosted the awards.
