Cult figure John Waters may primarily be known for his legendary films, including Hairspray, Pink Flamingos, Pecker, and A Dirty Shame to name a few. But in recent years Waters has taken on a new role as soundtrack curator for the holidays.

A Date With John Waters is a 14-track collection of fabulously rare punk, R&B, and even one country tune culled from Waters’ personal collection as a soundtrack for Valentines Day. The album will be released February 6 on New Line Records and follows the release of A John Waters Christmas in 2004. But lest one get the wrong idea about this Valentines Day collection Waters has issued a personal video message to his fans in which he describes his reasoning for including each track (take “Tonight You Belong to Me” by Patience and Prudence which Waters describes as “so stolen, so pure, so good”).
