Veteran rocker Joe Perry is set to lift the lid on his time in Aerosmith in a new book.

The guitarist is putting pen to paper to document his life story in a new autobiography and he started work on the project this week. 

Perry announced the news to fans on but has yet to reveal any more details about the book.

In a post on the site, he writes, "Officially started writing my biography (sic) this week. More info to come soon re: publisher, tentative release date, etc..."

The rocker will be the third member of the legendary band to write an autobiography - frontman Steven Tyler published his own book, Does The Noise In My Head Bother You?, last year, while drummer Joey Kramer released Hit Hard: A Story Of Hitting Rock Bottom At The Top in 2009.

Bassist Tom Hamilton is also working on a book, but his will be a novel featuring be a fictionalized version of his life story.
