Jim Jones Sued Over Ashanti Track
Rapper Jim Jones is facing a lawsuit from an R&B producer who alleges he sampled a copyrighted track without his permission.
The hip-hop star is accused of using Christopher R. Liggio's song Changing the Locks/Disco Rabbit on his record Changing the Locks, which features vocals from Ashanti.
Liggio filed papers at New York federal court on Wednesday also claiming music companies including Entertainment One, Universal Music Publishing, Songs of Universal Inc. and Pookitoots LLC also used the track without his consent.
Liggio, who has previously worked with Jay-Z and Mary J. Blige, was given a co-author and producer credit in the liner notes to Jones' track, but claims he was never contacted by the star, reports AllHipHop.com.
He is requesting $150,000 for the use of the copyrighted composition, as well as $150,000 for use of the copyrighted sound recording, and attorneys' fees and costs.
